FEB. 2007 - MATT BANOW DESIGN CHOSEN AS THE DESIGN FIRM FOR THE RESORATION OF "MAYFAIR" THE 2007 OLD YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S SHOW HOUSE

We are proud to have been selected as the design team for the restoration and expansion of Mayfair, the Old York Historical Society's 2007 Decorator Show House.

The home was originally built in 1903 by H. Blanchard Dominick. The name Mayfair was derived from one of the silver patterns designed by Dominick and Haff of New York City who were contemporaries of Tiffany and other prominent figures of the late 19th century.

Sadly, this once grand shingle style estate was in serious disrepair when purchased by the current owner at auction in 2006. It had suffered through decades of neglect and poorly planned renovations & alterations during the 1950's and 60's. There were also structural issues arising from the fact that at some point during its previous renovations structural walls had been removed in places.

Because of the home's sad condition Matt Banow Design was hired to do a total redesign of all three floors as well as to expand the compound with a separate carriage house and guesthouse. The result of our efforts, we hope, is that this proud home will now survive another century and beyond.

The home can be toured this summer starting in July, see the Society’s website for more information on tour hours: www.oldyork.org
